Women's Lacrosse League Debut with Charlotte North

November 14, 2024

The Episcopal School of Dallas is so excited to celebrate alumna Charlotte North (‘17). She may have left her mark on ESD as a stellar lacrosse player, but today, she leaves a legacy in sports!

The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) represents eight teams in North America, composed of the greatest players in lacrosse. The Sports Business Journal recognized this league in 2020 as the 2020 Sports Breakthrough and has continued gaining traction since its start in 2019. Paul Rabil, the co-founder and president of the PLL, wants to expand the league to recognize female athletes for their tireless dedication to and professional investment in the sport.

To expand the league into something more than men’s lacrosse, Rabil announced the launch of the Women’s Lacrosse League (WLL) with Charlotte North (‘17) as one of six ambassadors representing the start of the PLL’s first professional women’s lacrosse exhibition in the U.S. North (‘17) already broke records at the 2024 PLL All-Star Skills Competition, where she shot 92 miles per hour in the Fastest Shot Competition. Charlotte is also a gold medalist and NCAA champion, and we are overflowing with Eagle pride.

Charlotte looks forward to empowering the upcoming generation of female lacrosse players by playing an integral role in this monumental movement. In her WLL promotional material, North says, “It’s not a dream anymore. It’s our time,” reflecting her excitement to expand female lacrosse opportunities globally. Rabil describes Charlotte as one of “the best professional lacrosse players in the world” and expresses gratitude to include her in this historic moment.

Not only is North an ambassador for the WLL, but she will play on one of four teams competing in the inaugural WLL Championship Series trophy in 2025. The format follows the Olympic Sixes as the PLL hopes to move toward lacrosse’s reemergence in the 2028 Olympics.

We are so proud of you, Charlotte, and we’re cheering for you all the way from the Eagles Nest.
